Notes

The pattern is clearly written in detail.

EXCEPT … the designer neglected to mention how the head is attached to the body! I found help here. I watched this video (Tutorial 9 part 2). Tutorial #10 helped me, especially with the horse head.

I knitted the head in one with the body. The rows with intarsia are knitted flat, leaving an opening. It will help with stuffing.

The mane is 14 separate pieces of i-cord. Should it be sewn into the back seam? I sewed the mane on afterward. There must be a better way!

Pattern in e-book at Edmonton Public Library.
It’s so good, I just bought my own copy: it has patterns for many animals, with many articles of clothing to fit them all.

I couldn’t find the preferred yarn. I used a heathered merino DK that is lighter weight. The nose is 100% cotton, which wasn’t the best pairing, as it has no stretch at all.

I prefer to knit in the round and avoid sewing seams, but either way works well for this pattern. The arms and legs can definitely be knit in the round. One great thing is that any of these projects could be knit in any weight yarn, since progress is measured by number of stitches and rows, not by inches/cm.

Next, I’m making clothes.
