super secret birthday knitting

and it was fate
just started to think about what to make for Arthurs birthday when winterfi gifted me the pattern
and we both love where the wild things are so
it was decided

can’t wait to see his face when he unwraps this :)

finished!
three days before his birthday, whohoo!

sewing the ears on was the hardest part.
the hat was too big for my head so i pulled it over an bowl but it wasn’t working that well, i just hope they will look kind of at the right place when he has it on. also i know now why the ears should not be too large, because they get wobbly and don’t hold up… mine are wobbly, i tried to sew them on different ways but they are just falling from one side to the other… but it is sort of cute, like those large bunny ears… yeah well i hope the crown will help to hold them up somehow….

the overfelting of the crown helped a lot because it is super sturdy now and holds it shape by itself.

i can’t wait to see him with the hat!
so funny and cute!

felted the crown together with my moonkoosa boots, but forgot about the crown when i took them out, so it felted in a hot wash for like 40 minutes! i was freaking out a bit when i rememberd that it was still in there, but lucky me, it came out with a length of 24 inch, so i should be good!
crown is drying.
hat and ears are blocking.

2013-10-16
crown knitting finished!
came out quite big with 31 inch long and 6,5 in wide.
i hope hope felting it will make it all great.
Arthur surprised me with coming home a little bit early and i said this will become a christmas garland (had to make up something quite fast!), i think he was not convinced but he also doesn’t know whats going on ;-)

2013-10-14
um, did i say i will work the ears as in the pattern…well i was daydreaming again a little bit while knitting so i started the decreases not like in the pattern but after the 17th row….um, i guess it will be okay!
even unattached the hat looks so funny already!
love it!

started also with the crown, i work them till 14 stitches so the triangles are around 3 inches wide, i hope that will do the trick to get them to the right size.

2013-10-13
whee, time is passing by so quickly, i need to hurry!
somehow i thought that the ears in the pattern are too small so i made different versions, turns out i like none of them and i will stick with the original design…
crowns next!

2013-09-05
hat part finished!
super quick!
hopefully it will fit him!
the ears will be so fun to make, and the crown, can’t wait!

2013-09-03
was able to start while Arthur was away on a friends birthday. he has a large head and always trouble to find store bought hats that cover him properly, so i am determined to make it large enough to keep his ears warm.

notes for reference:
CO 80 stitches
with 6mm needle
continued knitting on 5,5
ribbing worked for a little bit more than 2 inch
and worked close to 6 inch before decreasing section
