This gently curved shawlette is comprised of a forest of delicate lacy trees separated by pine motifs. The trees are defined by yos, cables, and nupps while the cresent shape is achieved using short rows. The shawl is framed by a simple garter stitch border.

The pattern for this shawlette is inspired by a summer trip to Venice. The arches of the palaces along this romantic city’s Grand Canal are captured in the border of this wee wrap. I also wished to design a project that I could knit in a few days, so this piece is made using a single ball of sock yarn.

This project is inspired by the abundant and varied wildlife of Costa Rica. The Shetland style shawl is knit using garter stitch charts inspired by the fer de lance, tree frogs, octopii and land crabs. Like traditional Shetland shawls, there are no resting rows, pattern stitches are knit on the right and wrong sides.
