This is a pattern for double-knit oven mittens using a Japanese kanji character “火 (Fire)” as a motif. The character is a pictographic representation of a fire. I added other elements of fires around the character, such as sparks. The design on the cuff area is reminiscent of an item used by Japanese firefighters in the Edo period, called Matoi...

This stranded hat was inspired by the colorway Apollo, and NASA’s space shuttle program of the same name, that landed the first humans on the Moon. I am fascinated with the Universe and brought concepts like The Big Bang and Black Holes into the motifs on this hat.

This simple lace scarf is inspired by the Japanese hexagon pattern, Kikko (亀甲 - Tortoiseshell). Turtles are the symbol of longevity and considered auspicious in Japan. The Kikko pattern can be seen in various forms in Japan. I hope knitting this design with good fortune in mind will bring serenity to your life.

This intricate triangular Mosaic shawl features a traditional Japanese design pattern called Sayagata, often used on a kimono fabric and as sashiko motifs. The interlocking diagonal lines illustrate an auspicious design that symbolizes prosperity and longevity.

In July, 2021, I released a double-knit scarf design named Amimoji - Nature Scarf. Between the main motifs of Japanese characters, I used some repeated pattern designs that were reminiscent of Japanese Kimono fabric. I liked the designs so much that I decided to make a stand-alone scarf and fingerless mitts patterns with just the pattern motifs.

This is a double-knit scarf using redesigned Amimoji motifs. The motifs are Japanese Kanji characters, Yama (山), Kawa (川), Kusa (草), Ki (木), meaning Mountain, River, Grass, Tree, respectively.

This Amimoji pattern collection is a supplement to my lecture, “East Meets West, North and South: Amimoji Japanese Typography Knitting.” The various techniques presented in the lecture are included.

This striking knitted hat pattern incorporates a Japanese kanji character “風 (Kaze)” for the word “Wind.” The motifs continue around the hat just like the beautiful multi-panel screens of Byobu, presenting a series of images related to different aspects of winds. All the images are intersected and come to a full circle at the end.

This hat features the Chinese Kanji character Midori, meaning green.
