The Casla Cowl—sister design to the Casla Hat—with intersecting cables is named for the small village of Casla in County Galway, Ireland not far from the Atlantic coast. The rustic, rocky shore of this part of Ireland inspired all of the intertwining paths in this engaging, heavily-cabled cowl.

The Roundstone—a worsted-weight, yoked sweater—is named for the Irish village of the same name, which over the years has attracted national and international artists as a place to do their work. This appealed to me so I chose to name my first garment after this special place that seemed to be imbued with so much creativity.

Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The Gaelic word Figh—pronounced FEE—means “to weave” or “woven,” and in Scots Gaelic, it even means “to knit.” When I saw this definition, I knew it needed to be named the Figh Shawl because it was inspired by two things—my great-grandfather, who was the town weaver, and my obsession with designing and creating friendship bracelets as a teenage...

The Carna Shawl is inspired by and named after the small Irish town of Carna that borders my Mom’s hometown of Gowla. What used to be a fishing village has now become a place for tourists to visit. An occasional vessel can still be spotted, bobbing on the water, with an angler or two trying to catch their dinner. Children can be seen running al...

My mom grew up on a farm in Ireland and moved to the U.S. as a teenager. Arboe Shawl is named for a lakeside town near her childhood home. This crescent shawl begins with a field of smooth stockinette. As you approach the border, purl ridges break up the landscape like the stone walls that divide up the Irish countryside. Between ridges, large ...

When autumn settles in, the leaves that haven’t blown away intermingle in damp piles on the ground. I’m always delighted by the first surprise snowfall and the way the ice crystals outline each leaf, bringing them new life. The leaves in Brannock Cowl remind me of those frosty mornings.

Like a breeze waves through a field of wheat, alternating bands of garter stitch and lace ripple ever so slightly across the body of Harlen Shawl.
