Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Any time I work on charts for projects I like to imagine what they’d look like on other garments, especially socks. I loved this little garden gnome peeking out from among the flowers and as soon as I saw his little face emerge I knew I wanted him on some socks. The yarn used was from the Merlot to Moss fade set by Baa-realis Fibre.

This design was a collaboration with Yarn Divas for their 2023 Advent Calendar. When Chrissy and Sherri (owners of Yarn Divas) told me the inspiration for this year I knew I wanted some Forest Friends to be gathered around a Christmas tree, a North star shining brightly in the night sky, and a sense of Peace of the season. You’ll have fun with ...

What I love most about knitting colourwork socks is creating the second sock just a little different so I’m equally excited to make the second sock. For this design I changed the expressions of all the owls to add a bit more whimsy. You could knit both socks with only one owl chart repeated or, for a shorter version, only knit one or two rows o...

This sweater is designed to fit with 2-4” (5-10 cm) positive ease. The model in the photo is wearing the sweater with 4 inches of ease. Every effort has been made to create a pattern with sizing using standard measurements.

Flowers and gardens bring me so much joy. I could spend hours delighting in the variations of colours, shapes, sizes, and scents.

Inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas movie, these spooky mittens, created with black light reactive dyed yarn from Gingersnap Yarns, is perfect for the Halloween season. With spiders, bats, snake eyes, and bogeymen you’ll have as much fun knitting them as wearing them.

I love Winnie the Pooh. My favourite story is Winnie The Pooh and the Honey Tree. I especially love the 1977 animated special with the sweet little song;

The yarn used in sample is listed as a DK weight yarn. I would consider this a very light DK, closer to a sport weight yarn, or even a heavy sock yarn.

When designing these socks, I imagined secret love letters treasured behind locks on antique writing desks, wrought iron gates of hidden gardens where lovers met, the ornate bridges in Europe where modern lovers attach locks to proclaim undying love for each other, and the intimacy in the word Beloved.

Did you know a group of butterflies is called a kaleidoscope? Isn’t that the most delightful word to describe so much colour and beauty? I wanted to capture the impression of flowers and petals becoming a kaleidoscope of butterflies.

Flowers bring me joy but I am a terrible gardener. I love the variations of colours, textures, shapes, and scents. Sometimes they are dainty, sometimes they are robust and bold. No matter the size or shape, they just bring me joy. In a world that can feel chaotic, it’s important to ‘gather ye rosebuds while ye may’ and bring a bit of joy to you...

My sweet hedgehog was inspired by many fond memories of family trips to England. Knitting these socks is so much fun as you see the hedgehogs emerge from under the hedge.

Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
I was reminiscing about Christmases past and the preparations my parents would make to create a memorable holiday. As my husband and I were discussing new Christmas lights for our home I started thinking about the warm comforting glow of the classic red, green, and yellow Christmas lights of my youth.
Knitting: Christmas Stocking
This is knitting at its easiest. I have written this pattern for beginner knitters. Included in the pattern are links to tutorials for some of the scarier aspects of knitting a stocking.

When I was a youngster, I worked in my mom’s yarn store. She had a great group of ladies who worked in the store but there was one that was quite the character.

This design was inspired by gardens and the worlds we don’t see that are right in front of us.

Depending what source you read, dragonflies symbolize different things to different cultures and peoples. From strength to transformation to good fortune and luck. Some believe dragonflies are the souls of our loved ones come back to visit. No matter what your beliefs, they seem to delight everyone with their grace in flight and beautiful iride...

When I was a kid, my parents came home from a trip with a recording of Nicol Williamson reading The Hobbit. I’d never heard such an amazing thing in my life and it started my lifelong love of Tolkien. When the first Lord of the Rings movie was released in 2001 I couldn’t wait to see this fantastical world brought to life. One of my favourite sc...

I was thrilled to be asked by Fangirl Fibers to create a hat pattern with a cryptid motif for one of their Halloween boxes for 2022. I chose the Loch Ness Monster because of a trip to Scotland I took in 2014. Although we never made it as far north as Inverness or Loch Ness, we did travel around other areas of Scotland, from Oban to Tobermory to...

I love nature programs. I especially love nature programs that show me a world of beauty to which I barely pay attention. I was watching one such program when the image of a snail, gracefully moving across a mushroom top, struck me and I thought to myself, ‘What a wonderful world!’ Of course, I had to try to paint that image with yarn.

This summer, while camping, I reread Winnie the Pooh out loud to my husband as we sat around the campfire. As I read the story Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree, childhood memories came flooding back to me; my childhood love of wearing Wellington boots, camping in the rain, and, of course, watching the 1977 classic The Many Adventures of Winni...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This pattern was inspired by my love of camping and from happy childhood memories. Both the tent and vintage trailer charts are provided in this pattern. Make a pair with both the same camping motif or make a pair with one of each!
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
The Life’s Better In A Tent design was inspired by early camping trips with my young family. Although there are some sections where catching floats will be necessary, it’s a pattern that will keep you engaged.

These mittens start with a two-colour cast on, Latvian braid, and a cuff to hug the wrist. I started the body of the mitten with two rows of green to mimic grass. I embroidered leaves around a few of the flowers but it could be made with green as the contrast for the flower colour instead or no green at all. The thumb is an afterthought constru...

Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
After designing the Wee Fieldmouse mittens and beanie patterns I couldn’t wait to design matching socks with mushrooms at the toes – toed-stools! It’s so fun to watch the wee fieldmouse emerge from under his leaf.

The inspiration for the Stay Wild Mittens comes from my proximity to the Rocky Mountains. Every trip I have taken to these amazing mountains has been soul cleansing. As I stare into the trees with the mountains behind them, I just want to wander through them, build a cabin, unplug every device I own and Stay Wild.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Just like the Stay Wild Mitten pattern, the Stay Wild beanie was inspired by my love of the Rocky Mountains and the temptation to step into the forest and lose myself. A person can dream!

Sweet Alice is my mom’s best friend. They’ve been friends since the 1980s and she has always been important part of my life as well. When Alice decided she could no longer knit, she gifted to me her Fair Isle books and handwritten charts accumulated over the years. Alice has always been an untraditional kind of person, which suits my design sty...

How could I not put my Wee Fieldmouse on a beanie!

Fingering weight yarn is a great way to create detail in a project and it’s my favourite for mittens with any colour work involved. You can get more details using a fingering weight yarn. This particular pattern uses a light fingering.

This pattern is named after my mother’s best friend. They met when my mom opened a wool store in Sherwood Park in the 1980s and have been friends ever since. Alice was born and raised in the Shetland Isles before moving to Canada. When she decided she could no longer knit she gifted to me her Fair Isle pattern books and her hand-written charts....

I had a dream about this design.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
These socks are knit in the round from cuff down. Increased stitches for the stranded section gives a little more stretch to the fabric to go over the heel. The Eye of Partridge Heel adds some texture to the knit and the flowers at the toes add whimsy to an already whimsical motif.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
As soon as I had designed the Life’s Better at the Campsite mittens I knew I wanted to have a matching beanie. I opted to use the same weight of yarn for the beanie as I did for the mittens, thinking of those cooler Fall and Spring nights that we camp or sit around the fire pit drinking hot chocolate. This motif reminds me of when I was little ...

Every year since my brother died I look forward to seeing dragonflies. I don’t know what happens after we’re gone but I like the idea of our loved ones coming back to visit as dragonflies. Isn’t that why we get so excited to see them, as if they hold something special?
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.
Knitting: Mittens
I tried to create a butterfly pattern that showed the movement of butterflies as well as their beauty. This design is created to allow the beautiful colours of yarn create the pattern on the butterfly and can change with every version you make depending on your yarn choice.

Revised June 2022: I have revised this pattern to include directions for two weights (DK and Fingering) and 3 sizes of each.
