Playing with the way they fit together, the way you can build larger diamonds out of smaller diamonds, and the way you can carve smaller diamonds out of larger ones.

Worked all in one piece, Asymmetrical Bluebells is a long shallow triangular shawl, with a simple sawtooth edging all along one edge, and a smattering of stylized flower motifs scattered across a garter stitch background.

This shawl came out of my desire for a simple project that didn’t take much thought and that would travel well. So I designed a shawl that would combine large sections of garter stitch with smaller portions of simple lace patterning. The combination of cushy garter stitch and simple lace make for relaxing knitting and a cozy finished object.

Inspired by the ruff many dragons are depicted with, this shawl consists of a background of garter stitch mesh interspersed with strips of stockinette that add depth. It’s finished off with a deep garter stitch border that grounds the entire piece.

Triangles mirrored make diamonds. Diamonds stacked make columns. Columns of diamonds and off-set triangles intermingle and play across a crescent of a field. And as they play, they all see themselves in the other. Because triangles mirrored make diamonds, and diamonds halved make triangles.
