Rows of coins, jingling with every movement; veils swirling and the tinkle of finger cymbals, known as “zills”. Bellydance is known in many countries and is enjoying newfound popularity in North America. The pattern used on these socks resembles the coins worn on dancer’s hip scarves and the yarn used, with it’s little touch of silver, echoes th...

I used Patons Impressions hand-dyed wool (1x100g skein). It is a single ply worsted weight (varied between worsted and sport in thickness), 50g / 1.75oz and 140m / 153y. Unfortunately, it is discontinued. Any worsted weight with a tension of 20 sts = 10cm / 4 inches using 4.oo-4.50mm / 6-7US needles would be suitable. The mitts are knit at a tig...

A string of colourful ovals across the sky…. The Japanese Lanterns pattern is meant to reflect that elegant, flowing shape. This pattern has been written with sport-weight yarn in mind and was created specifically for handspun sock yarn.

Jewel Box is a simple, elegant design in a lightweight, all seasons’ yarn. Merino / tencel, with its’ delicate sheen, makes for a more formal or evening look and the crystal drops add a little weight to the scarf, keeping it in place, even on a breezy evening.

Designer Notes: This sock was designed to work with some of the fabulous handpainted yarns that are available now. It is knit in a combination of stitches that twist around the sock. The texture is fairly simple to do, but not boring, and keeps the focus on the amazing colours in the yarn.

Liked Mad-tini, but ready for more of a challenge? This pattern is knit in a lighter weight yarn, and carries the pattern down the instep and foot. A dressier version of the sportweight Mad-tinis.
