The origins of the word “burgeon” include references to wool, used to describe the fluff or down on flower buds that are growing, putting forth shoots…burgeoning!

Charleston, South Carolina is a beautiful city, full of history, bridges, flowers, and beaches. This scarf features “gull wing” lace along the sides to capture the joy of living near the ocean, and a twist stitch pattern down the middle inspired by majestic bridges and historic architecture. The drop stitch pattern on each end gives the feeling...

Knitting: Table Setting - Other
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
While watching the old Gary Cooper movie “Mr. Deeds Goes to Town” I fell absolutely in love with windows in the background of the courtroom scene. Using them as my inspiration, I created this hat, which I now plan to use to teach the stranded Fair Isle knitting technique.

A warm and cuddly cowl with alternating garter and yarn-over lace sections that knits up quick in a squishy bulky yarn. Use needles larger than those recommended for the yarn you choose so that the finished fabric will have a good drape.
Knitting: Scarf
Friends are a vital necessity to life. Their companionship, influence, and connection help make us who we are. This pattern was named for a sweet friend who has helped me immeasurably in my knitting career. Plus, she didn’t really think I would name this pattern after when she suggested I do so. Gotcha, Sandy!
Knitting: Hanging Ornament
This pattern has recently been updated to use fingering weight rather than worsted weight yarn, and I LOVE the results!
Knitting: Headband
(I used US size 10 needles that are 5.75mm.)

Knitting: Scarf
Something about the way this scarf knit up, especially with this fun red yarn, made me think of those ubiquitous molded plastic building blocks, and since it is being sent to the Red Scarf Project for college kids from foster homes, I think it’s an appropriate transition piece as these young adults enter a new stage of their lives.
Knitting: Cowl
A thinner, hipper version of my Brickworks Scarf (originally designed for the Red Scarf Project, one of my favorite charities) this infinity scarf will add a touch of color to your outfit and a touch of warmth to your neck. It knits up quickly and is fun to wear.

Knitting: Afghan block
The latest in our series of afghan blocks for the Big 10 Knit-a-Long for Charity is this simple eyelet number that is fun and festive looking. I particularly like how it looks good in either a dark or light colored yarn--something that isn’t always the case when you start throwing in pattern stitches that you want to actually show up in the kni...

Using Barbara Walker’s purl twist fabric for inspiration, the Thousand Mile Journey scarf features a soft texture that looks a little like tire tracks. It’s a lovely way to send a hug to a foster care student as they set out on the road of life.
