Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This basic sock pattern combines my favorite sock techniques and features. Together with my tips for good sock fit, I offer all I’ve learned about knitting socks.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This top-down triangular shawl starts with the total amount of stitches at cast-on, then decreases on both sides every row. The result gives you a wide wingspan with a shorter depth. It’s perfect for practical wearing, like a scarf under your coat or draped over your shoulders on cold days.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
Knit in a wooly fingering weight yarn, these mittens will keep you toasty warm during all your outdoor adventures, including trips to your local farmers market in early Spring and Fall.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Meridian Lines is knit from one corner, increased to its widest, and then decreased to the opposite corner. This construction gives you a perfect square that can be worn folded in half and wrapped around your neck or draped across your shoulders or your lap.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Floating Blossom is a top-down, crescent shape shawl. Its center panel twists, trellis-like, with a ribbed cable. The body of the shawl holds floating berry blooms with more sweet cables bordering the shawl’s edge.
Knitting: Cowl
Knit in the round, the Meet Cute Cowl brings Seed and Brioche stitch together in perfect harmony. Knit with three colors, the Brioche sections make the color transition delightfully squishy.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The Meet Cute between seed stitch and brioche is like two movie characters who didn’t know they have so much in common. It just so happens that both seed stitch and brioche stitches require ‘happy couples,’ multiples of two, to work out well. Thus, this design became a blanket of love, complete with flirty tassels.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Aiaia is a light and airy shawl, perfect for Summer and the transition into Fall. Knit from side to side, Aiaia is an asymmetric triangle. Knit on the bias, increasing on one side while decreasing on the other, it’s a fun shape to knit. (Don’t worry if you don’t know what knitting on the bias is, you won’t even notice you’re doing it!)
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Cumulus Skies is a large, top-down crescent-shaped shawl. It’s worked in both The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers yarns, deliciously Juicy DK and the cloud-like Oh Dang!. This shawl is knit in stripes of relaxing garter stitch and fun herringbone that together create a beautiful contrast of textures. Its gently billowy folds will encircle your neck an...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl was inspired by the beautiful yarn of The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers and the deep friendships I’ve been blessed with in the knitting community. The yarn’s turquoise colors remind me of the earth, our connection to it, and where we come from. Sharing our stories with each other has become as precious as any gemstone.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
The easy cables, garter, and lace sections of these socks make for an engaging project while showing off the beautiful luster of Earl Grey Fiber Company’s Darjeeling Sock. They are knit from the top down and feature an afterthought heel construction.
Knitting: Cowl
I love lace at a larger gauge. This scarf is intricate, beautiful, and delicate, but easy to knit. It’s reminiscent of antique lace, like my grandmother used to make. Designed as a respite for the neck, this scarf provides lacy layers without extra bulk and weight. With interesting construction details, like a Provisional Cast-On and a 3-Needle...
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
These fingerless mittens are knit in the round, with a basic thumb gusset construction. A cable runs the length of the top of the arm and hand with a shorter cable running up the thumb.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
With contrasting cuff, heel, and toe, these afterthought heel classics are great for newer sock knitters fearful of the heel turn and for experienced sock knitters feeling adventurous. This pattern includes written instructions for both the Magic Loop 2-at-a-time method and double-pointed needles, offering the opportunity to try the path you do...
Knitting: Cowl
This cowl is perfect for beginning knitters. Its knit in the round on circular needles with a few rows of 2x2 ribbing. But that’s where the ‘beyond the basics’ end. Holding three strands of yarn together is easy and creates bigger stitches that make this project fly off the needles.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This is a beanie style hat, knit in the round from the bottom up. The simple, yet distinct cables make it easy and satisfying for both beginner and advanced knitters.
