This yarn has a fantastic hand. It’s pretty springy for alpaca fiber, and very soft. The carbonized bamboo rayon gives it a very subtle sheen. The alpaca has white flecks throughout, so it knits up in a lightly heathered grey color. This is a 3-ply yarn, so stitch definition for patterns and cables is excellent.

The fleece was purchased directly from a small farm on California’s Central Coast, and processed and spun by Ranch of the Oaks, a small mill that uses biodegradable soap and mechanical methods to clean and card the fiber. It has not undergone “carbonization”, in which enzymes dissolve all plant matter, so clean pieces of hay, grass, or stickers may remain in the yarn. It’s spun semi-worsted from a carded prep, so it’s lofty and nice to work with.
