SVALBARD is a limited edition production run and is already selling quite fast with no promotion. We ply it from a very fine industrial thread that is primarily 15.5 micron merino wool. The balance is cashmere, which may actually be slightly coarser than the merino. Very seldom does wool this fine reach the public as yarn -- most of it goes into very high end knit and woven garments from famous brands.

The ability to ply industrial yarns gives us access to amazing fibers. In general, the thinner a yarn is, the higher the quality of fiber required to get it to hang together during spinning. There has often been something of a deep chasm separating weaving yarns -- thin, precise, luxurious, and not suitable for knitting, even as lace in many cases -- from handknitting yarns, which many spinners think of as what you make out of leftovers.

SVALBARD is an island off Norway where a seed bank of all plant life on Earth is being stored -- kind of an ark for plants, just in case.
