We are relaunching our Samite yarn, as a very special Limited Edition Birthday Yarn, paying homage to the Legend of King Arthur.

Samite was a luxurious and heavy silk fabric worn in the Middle Ages, of a twill-type weave, often including gold or silver thread. Our samite is a blend of silk and wool, and this range is inspired by the legend of King Arthur and his royal court of knights.

To make this woollen spun yarn we blended smooth drapey Blue-Faced Leicester, with the bouncy froth of Shetland and the guilt-free luxurious recycled silk. This combination of pale and dark fibres creates a yarn with glorious depth of colour and delicate nepps of silk. Because it is woollen spun, Samite retains the characteristic bounce of Shetland, and is more durable than the standard silk blend, marking it ideal for colourwork, cables and texture.

The colours of our new Samite range have been inspired by some of the characters from the Arthurian Legend and include one natural shade in light grey and seven dyed shades.
