Tor: A Yarn from the Westcountry.

For our limited edition 13th birthday yarn, we’ve again taken inspiration from our wild Westcountry landscape.

Our mill is nestled between Dartmoor to the east and Bodmin Moor to the west, two vast terrains of rolling hills topped with granite outcrops called tors. A hiker’s paradise, these natural landmarks are visible for miles around, and have inspired many of the myths and legends of Devon and Cornwall.

The fibre for this yarn is mainly sourced from our neighbouring county of Devon, from flocks that specialise in cross-breeding to obtain the finest fibres. Tor contains 55% Romney cross from the south of Devon, and 28% of the softest Merino cross from the north. We added just 5% of North Ronaldsay and 4% Shetland to enhance the woolly character, and 8% British alpaca to contribute colour and softness. The resulting yarn is a plump 2-ply aran, bouncy and warm, with a gorgeous halo of Alpaca and North Ronaldsay fibres. Tor is perfectly suited to warm garments and accessories, and comes in one natural grey shade along with five complementary dyed colours inspired by our local moors.
