We have a very special place in our hearts for these yarns. The Navajo-Churro sheep of Rusted Earth Farm live only a few miles down the road from us and we were lucky enough to help with the shearing of these sweet sheep.

Rusted Earth Farm & Studio is committed to organic and sustainable farming practices, They are home to chickens, heritage Navajo-Churro and Jacob sheep, and a donkey named Mickey. Through a deep respect for and personal relationship with the natural world, they strive to be responsible stewards of their land.

Western North Carolina has a large and diverse fiber shed with over 500 fiber farms within a 100 mile radius of Asheville, NC, where Fern Fiber is located. Supporting this fiber community is the Morning Star Fiber Mill, where these fleece were washed and spun into yarn. These fleece were first de-haired, removing some of the courser outer coat and are fabulous for hats, mittens, sweaters, and other outerwear.

You are buying the eco-spun yarn of a happy, healthy ewes living in the emerald forest and fields of Western North Carolina, the oldest mountains in the world!
