Please meet my new Dk yarn, Crumpets. This yarn is 100% non-superwash Falkland wool. If you are not familiar with Falkland wool, you will be so pleased to become acquainted with it.

Falkland wool comes exclusively from the Falkland Islands. These islands have a harsh climate which reduces the pests that plague sheep grown in other parts of the world. This means their wool is untreated by pesticides and the sheep are not subjected to mulesing.

Falkland wool is a blend of sheep breeds grown on the Falkland Islands—mostly Corriedale, Polwarth and Merino breeds. The wool is soft and has a lovely white natural coloring. The fiber is lovely for sweaters and has a beautiful soft sheen.

This yarn is a bouncy 2 ply DK weight yarn. It is a pure joy to work with. If your hands become tired from working with yarns of little bounce and give, please give Crumpets a try. Another wonderful aspect of this yarn is the way it takes dye. It creates the most beautiful rich tonals and soft pastels alike. Because this yarn is non-superwash, you won’t have the after-blocking growth you sometimes experience after making a sweater with superwash yarn. You can also use this yarn for projects which call for steeking. The natural fibers are grabby enough to keep their place while you steek.

I have curated a palette of tonals to introduce this yarn to you. You may select from mini skeins of 100 yards each to use a variety of colorways in a color work garment or select full skeins of 262 yards per 100 grams. I have tested it at a US Needle size 6 and the fabric was lovely at a gauge of 22 inches/32 rows per 4 inches. It has lovely flow and structure at that gauge.

Care of this yarn is simple: a quick soak in tepid water with a little wool wash. Roll it in a towel to squish out the excess water. (Don’t agitate it too much.) Lay it out to dry flat at the measurements you desire. You will find that your garment will keep its shape and size nicely without stretching out.
