These special yarns first appeared in my surprise Easter Egg sets, but now the secret is secret no longer it is time to share them publicly with you all! Nature provides us with such beautiful colours, speckles and shades and a palette drawn from British bird eggs just makes me happy.

I come from a family of keen wildlife enthusiasts with my own ever growing collection of modern and vintage natural history books. My childhood was spent outside, up a tree (with a book) or sitting in my chicken pen (with book) or going off on walks with big sister Ally (and her dog Piddle) or helping look after the multitude of birds of all description that we owned as pets, bred for conservation purposes or were brought wounded and close to death to be “fixed” by my dad - local doctor and renowned “bird-man”!

This special shawl kit contains 1 x 50g and 5 x 10g hand dyed skeins of 4ply 75/25 superwash merino/nylon

please note - each batch has subtle variations - just like nature!

The bird eggs represented are as follows:

The 10g skeins are
Robin, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Dunnock and Coal Tit

The 50g skein is my little joke.

I have called it “Cuckoo”. The reality is that there are no bird eggs in this particular shade with black, brown and blue speckles, but like the cuckoo which can lay eggs in multiple shades in order to mimic those in the nests it steals, I decided that I could cheat a little too (purely in the interest of aesthetics of course!!)
