Cattail Silk
Spun and dyed in Japan, Cattail Silk has a wonderfully earthy texture and a casual spin speckled by little nubs of color. It is made of 100% mulberry silk, renowned for its beauty, strength, and superior quality, and its distinctive texture comes from spinning three plies of just the noil, which are the short fibers left after the silk is carded or combed. The result is a lighter drape than most silks, a more subtle shine, and an offhanded elegance. With its bitty donegals and varying texture, Cattail Silk is always compelling to knit! Its gauge ranges from fingering to sportweight, perfect for wraps and sweaters, and at over 600 yards per skein, you’ll hardly ever need more than a handful. Choose from a beautiful bouquet of colors, each named from Japan’s list of traditional, time-honored colors. Please note that a few of these colors may run a little bit. If you’re knitting a darker color with a lighter one, please consider setting the darker yarn’s dye to prevent bleeding. Check out our Re-fixing Dye Tutorial for tips on how!
