Perceval starts out as a young boy who has been sheltered by his mother (she fears that if he grows up to become a knight, he will die like his father). But for all his mother’s protection, she can’t keep him away from the path of knighthood as he sees a group of knights passing by one day and wants to become just like them.

He thus travels to Arthur’s court and seeks to become a knight. But because he has been raised outside of the knightly world, he’s rather ignorant about the ways of knighthood. But he ultimately reaches his goal and becomes a knight. And he is one of only three knights (the other two are Galahad and Bors) to successfully complete the quest for the holy grail.
