07 YO Sweater
A bold yet wearable knit inspired by 80s silhouettes, with a modern twist for confident knitters and lovers of contemporary knitting patterns.
The 07 YO Sweater combines a cropped fit with voluminous sleeves and deep twisted rib trims at the neck, cuffs, and hem. Worked from the top down, the body features a textured mix of garter stitch, stocking stitch, yarn overs, and decreases – giving the sweater its name and a dynamic, airy surface pattern.
To begin, the shoulders and back are shaped by casting on at the back neck using the long-tail cast-on method and increasing with lifted increases to build the full shoulder width. Stitches are then picked up for the front shoulders, followed by the sleeve caps.
The yoke is worked flat while the front neckline is shaped, then joined in the round after a few stitches are cast on at the neck. The stitch pattern continues through the yoke as you increase for the sleeves and body using lifted increases. Once the yoke is complete, sleeves and body are separated and worked in the round, both finished with deep twisted rib for a polished, structured look.
To finish, stitches are picked up around the neckline and the high neck is worked in twisted rib. The result is a statement-making, thoughtfully designed sweater with a nod to vintage style and a place in the modern handmade wardrobe.
