Amun-Ra is semi-circular colorwork shawl. It’s knit in two steps.

First, the main part is worked sideways, wedge by wedge.

Then the stitches for the trim are picked up from the outer edge of the main part.

Techniques used: garter stitch, short rows, decreases and increases

Size and gauge:

Your gauge must be approximately 28 rows by 20 sts in 10 cm in garter stitch, unblocked. Before blocking, the shawl was 160 cm wide, and 60 tall. After blocking, it stretched about 10cm in each direction. The extent of blocking will vary on the yarns used, and is hard to predict.

You will need:
fingering-weight yarn in three colors:

  • 120g/500m of color A (shown light blue)

  • 100g /400m of color B (shown dark blue)

  • 35g /150m of color C (shown yellow)

You will also need circular needles US size 6 (4mm), and a stitch marker (optional).
