The Anning Hat uses mosaic knitting to create a colorful pattern of woven squares. This hat is named after Mary Anning, who excavated the first Ichthyosaurus skeleton in Lyme Regis, England when she was eleven years old, and then went on to become a self-taught paleontologist.

Knitters can choose to use a neutral color plus a gradient yarn (as in the sample), two solid colors, or any number of other combinations. This project could be the chance to go stashbusting for the contrasting colors and use up some leftover bits.

This hat is knit in the round with only one color at a time, making it a fast, fun project!
