Knit a cute cat ear hat! There are lots of patterns for this sort of beanie as it is just knitting a tube (or two rectangles in some constructions), but I typed up this pattern to share what I did if you want to make one that looks exactly like this.

  • Gauge is approximately (16 sts x 19 rows) = (4” x 4”) in 2x2 ribbing
  • This project is suitable for beginners who can make knit stitches and purl stitches.
  • The hat is worked in the round on circular needles from the bottom up, and the top is sewn shut with mattress stitch.
  • The pattern is for a hat in a 2x2 ribbing that is very stretchy and should fit most adults.
  • Laid flat and unstretched, the beanie measures 8” across and 10” tall and is meant to be worn with the brim folded up in a cuff.

Materials

  • 123 yd (112 m) of a chunky weight yarn. I used 73 g of Hayfield Spirit Chunky in the colorway 405 Casper.
  • Size 5.5 mm (US 9) circular needles in 16” length. You can also use 32” or 40” long circular needles but you will need to use the “magic loop” or “travelling loop” technique.
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors
