The Aosta Sweater (Mohair Edition) is the sister sweater to the original Aosta Sweater. It’s a top-down project that is worked in the round in Andalusian stitch with three strands of silk-mohair yarn held together for a light and ethereal finish. The sample garment was made with Soft Silk Mohair by Knitting For Olive, but any equivalent mohair yarn would also work beautifully. It has a high neck and slight balloon sleeves and is finished with 1x1 rib stitch on the collar, hems, and cuffs. It’s the perfect sweater for winter and early spring!

The garment uses a range of techniques including a double-folded collar, German short rows, raglan shaping, and tubular cast-offs.

You will need approx. 11 (12) 12-13 (13-14) 14 (14-15) 15-16 (16-17) 17 skeins / metres of Soft Silk Mohair by Knitting for Olive or any alternative silk-mohair yarn that matches the necessary tension. To make the Aosta Sweater (Mohair Edition), you hold three strands of the yarn together throughout. Given the nature of this style of knitting, I would advise over-ordering your yarn!

Note: If you choose to use We Are Knitter’s Touch Me Mohair, then you might be okay only holding 2 strands together, rather than 3. However, the finish of that yarn is so different to most mohair yarns that I’m not sure I would recommend it for this project. Something like Drops Kidsilk Mohair or Filcolana Tilia would perhaps be more appropriate.

The sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL are intended to fit a bust measurement of roughly 85-90 (90-95) 95-100 (100-105) 105-110 (110-115) 115-120 (120-125) 125-130 cm with around 15-20cm positive ease. The fit is meant to be fairly relaxed. For reference, my bust measures c. 90cm and I made the size S.

The finished garment measures 105 (110) 115 (120) 125 (130) 135 (140) 145 cm at the widest point of the body. If you wish to have less ease, you may wish to consider going down from your typical size.
