This shawl is inspired by the apiary that we have at the top of our apartment building and the sense of community of the building itself. My husband, cats, and I are so fortunate to live in an experimental eco building that features: a tall eco tower with 14th floor greenhouse and terrace, a 3rd floor roof garden that is part of the low house portion of the building and a “greenroom” for neighbourhood meetings and gatherings. We have, in our building, a very cosy community of neighbours that work together much like bees, to provide a friendly and supportive environment. We gather for monthly pot-lucks, Wednesday arts and craft nights in the green room, community growing project on the roof garden and many more activities. I guess what I’m saying is, this is my hive!

Shawl is knit top down in a triangular- shape in one piece.
approx. 700 yards (500 meters) total is used. You will require one skein of MY “main yarn” and one skein of MH “mohair” to complete this project.

Measurements:

• Tip to tip of wings measure approx. 55” (139.5 cm)
• Top of centre spine to bottom tip measure approx. 21” (53.5 cm)
• Centre spine to tip of wing measure approx. 27 ½” (70 cm)
• Tip of wing to bottom tip measures approx. 35” (89 cm)

Gauge: 49 rows x 29 sts = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) over stripped stockinette st.
Gauge is not crucial to the fit for this piece, but may affect yarn consumption.

Materials:
Sample A – (MY) 1 skein of MadelineTosh Tosh Merino Light in colour Sandstorm (100% merino wool – fingering weight – 100 g / 419 yards / 384 meters).
(MH) 1 skein of Isager Silk Mohair in colour 59 Old Yellow (75% kid mohair, 25% silk – lace weight – 25g / 232 yards / 212 meters).
Sample B – (MY) 1 Skein set of Snail Yarn Gradient Minis in colourway Autunno (100% superwash merino – fingering weight – 100g / 400 yards / 366 meters).
(MH) 1 skein of Isager Silk Mohair in colour 28 Coral (75% kid mohair, 25% silk – lace weight – 25g / 232 yards / 212 meters).
Needles: US 2, 24” circular needles (2.75 mm, 60 cm circular needles).
Notions: Blocking pins, 2 stitch markers.
