Apothecary
Apothecary is an overlay mosaic crochet pattern
Apothecary is the sister blanket to The Craft and was created especially for my friend Sherri Clark, with a little help with the design from her along the way. Sherri and her husband love to forage and have their own home apothecary, which inspired the theme for this blanket.
Whether you’re making it for yourself or as a gift, this pattern is all about bringing a bit of that homestead, handmade charm into your space.
Rest assured, this pattern is designed with beginners in mind – it features simple repeats and no complex stitches, making it a perfect starting point for your crochet journey.
With this pattern, you get two different versions.
- One in normal mosaic crochet, where you use just one colour per row.
- One in tapestry mosaic crochet, where you use more than one colour per row.
This pattern has all the charts and written instructions you need to complete the blanket.
Four PDFs are available:
- Normal Mosaic in US terms
- Normal Mosaic in UK terms
- Tapestry Mosaic in US terms
- Tapestry Mosaic in UK terms
It is your responsibility to use the correct PDF for your needs.
The PDFs have 10 easy-to-read charts (with Xs for DCs) and corresponding written instructions.
Use any yarn and corresponding hook for this pattern; remember that high-contrast colours are better suited for mosaic crochet.
This design looks great in two colours, or you could go for a whole mosaic tapestry with many colours. The choice is yours.
Within the Mosaic Tapestry Crochet pattern, you will see that I have designed my charts and written instructions for this mosaic tapestry version to simplify the technique for you, indicating precisely when to change colours.
Please note that this approach is specific to my designs, as other designers might have different methods.
The pattern links to a tutorial video on mosaic tapestry crochet, and it’s a good idea to crochet this first if you are new to mosaic tapestry.
If using DK-weight yarn, you will need approximately:
• Colour A - 1221 metres / 1335 yards
• Colour B - 1230 metres / 1345 yards
• Double border – 580 metres / 635 yards
For my examples, I used Yarnsmiths Create DK. The pattern PDFs detail the full colourways and yarn stats.
Tools:
• 4mm hook (for the main blanket)
• 3mm hook (for the double border)
• Scissors
• Stitch markers
Size:
• 195 stitches wide by 231 rows tall
• The Afghan size with a double border will be approx. 110cm wide by 132cm long
