Artemisia, with its relaxed elegance, slight A-line shape and charming neckline, is a beautiful Top to wear year round. The lovely lace and cable pattern that embellishes the V-neckline, though it looks intricate, is not difficult to make. The rest of the body and sleeves are worked in simple Stockinette stitch. The pattern includes instructions for both a short and a long sleeve version.

The main color yarn is a blend of cotton and alpaca, creating a fabric that is soft, with a beautiful drape and a slight halo. The contrast color yarn is a blend of linen and wool, giving the knitted fabric a slight sheen. The result is a subtle contrast in texture between the two fabrics that emphasizes the beauty of the cable and lace pattern around the V-neckline.

Construction notes:

Front and Back pieces are worked flat, bottom-up and seamed at the sides. A lace and cable stitch pattern in contrasting yarn is worked at the upper Front piece, using the intarsia colorwork technique, to embellish the V-neckline. Shoulders are joined with a 3-needle bind off. Sleeves are picked up from the armholes and worked in the round to the cuffs (the pattern includes instructions for a short and a long sleeve version). The Top is worked almost entirely in Stockinette stitch pattern. Hems and sleeve cuffs are worked in garter stitch. Finally stitches are picked up around the neckline to work a 1x1 neckband.

Techniques used:

Increases, decreases, bind off, intarsia colorwork, chart-reading skills or ability to follow written instructions, lace knitting, simple cables, short rows and seaming.
