This 1884 pattern was used for the leg of a “Baby’s Boot” but it can be used for anything! There are 4 easy pattern rows with one knit-across row and one purl-across row. Any even number of stitches over 4 stitches will work. I added 2 selvage stitches to control yarn overs.
Tip: An easy way to check all the yarn overs on row 4 is to spread out the stitches on the needle. The yarn overs and the purl stitches will appear in pairs: it’s a quick visual check to ensure all the yarn overs are there.

Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, k2tog, yarn over and bind off.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
