I wanted to design a project that would give the beginning knitter a lot of practice at the very basics of knitting. This shrug may look complicated, but there are only 4 basic things you need to know - cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. Aside from weaving in the yarn ends, the only finishing is two very short seams to create the armholes.

This pattern is written with the intention of holding two yarns together - a fingering weight yarn and a mohair (or other fluffy lace weight yarn). It is a great opportunity to play with colour blending. The result is a more complex colour than would normally be available in a single skein of yarn. The finished garment also has a lovely halo.

The yardage required is as follows:
Size small requires 305 yds (280m) of each yarn.
Size medium requires 328 yds (300m) of each yarn.
Size large requires 361 yds (330m) of each yarn.
