Bejeweled Viking Fusion is the result of a long held vision to bring two different types of knitting together. Cablework and colorwork.
The cables are Viking Cables designed after actual Viking artifacts by Elsabeth Lavold in her book “Viking Patterns for Knitting.” These have special meaning as my mother was born and raised in Norway, and taught me how to knit at age 6. I have been to the Viking Museum in Oslo, Norway a few times.

The construction of Bejeweled Viking Fusion is rather simple, but entirely unique, and I am very pleased that it worked. The body of the sweater is knit flat --the two sleeves and front and back. These pieces are then placed on the circular needle and joined together, and then the yoke is knit in the round. The yoke is a shallow yoke, with a wide neckline.

The front and back are seamed, the sleeves seamed and the portions that were bound off before joining form the armhole opening. After the body and sleeves are seamed, there is an under arm seam. The seed stitch border at the bottom of the sweater is not seamed for a split.

A completely different look was obtained by my test knitter who used gray for the body and a yoke with a blue background color. Whereas my sweater is for the bold and artistic, hers is more subdued and tasteful.

The sweater is tunic length and comes in sizes S, M, L.
Chest size: 32-34”, 36-38” and 40-42”. Actual bust measurements. As cable pattern is fixed, sizing was done in stockinette border, and adjusting rows above the last cable, or the seed stitch border. A larger size can also be achieved by going up a needle size.

Notions needed: Cable needle, tapestry needle, 14 markers, one for beginning of the round. locking stitch markers.

There are 4 embedded videos: two for special increases for the Viking Cables, one to illustrate crossing to the right, knit over purl, with and without a cable needle. One to explain transition rows.
If you would like to view enlarged videos, go to my YouTube channel, Marianne Restel. I have close ups with good lighting.

SKILL LEVEL: Experienced, or for the fearless, adventurous intermediate knitter who would like to learn new skills.

Cable lovers will enjoy the challenge of working these interesting cables! There are 6 cable charts--and 4-5 complex cables are worked across the the row, often on different rows.

There are 2 colorwork charts --one for S/M size, and one for L. They each have been split to fit each one per one page.

I hope you enjoy this interesting, unique sweater as much as I had designing it!

Many thanks to my Swedish test knitter heidistickar!!

EDITS: for those who did not receive the newest updated patterns, large size should by 40-42”. Sizes are actual bust measurement. (The size edit was included with earlier updated patterns.) Gauge: stitch gauge is the same, row gauge should be 30 rows/4”. At the beginning of Chart A, there are some written instructions at beg and end of the 1st row.
It is most clear to skip those and just begin Chart A.
At the end, the last rounds of the yoke say to use “the blue.”
This should read: use “color 2.”

Paid patterns have all the edits. Paid began Feb 1, 11:10 central time, USA.

EDIT--2-3-2022: Blocked measurements on back and front should be approximately 18 (20, 22)“ wide and 21 (22, 23)” long.
EDIT: 2-4-2022. Have knit back and one sleeve. In addition to above comments on pattern have made the following corrections or clarifications:

Each time chart B is finished, “replace” the chart sts with reverse stockinette sts.
WS row that follows row 23 of Chart D includes last row of chart D. Add words “Chart D is now finished.”

Two typos of “k3” should be “p3”. in two places. After resuming charts B, C1 and C2 after chart D is finished, in first RS row. And after Row 2 of Chart E.
EDIT: 2/5/2022:
Change increases in sleeve large size: Increase on row 7, then every 8th row 3 (4, 6) times, then every 10th row 0 (3, 4) times, then every 12th row 5 (2, 2) times. 70 (72, 78) sts.

Change chart repeats and rows: Work 4 repeats of chart, plus 0 (4, 10) rows.
Block to 17.5” (18”, 19”) long and 14” (14.5”, 15”) wide.

To change length, be sure to end on a row with 22 sts in order to keep st count accurate for the yoke. Measure from the underarm to desired length.

EDIT: 2/10/2022 a revised pattern with errors corrected, simplified written instructions and have both colorwork charts by number and in color, included. Was republished 2/9/ 2022.

One final update published on 2-15-2022 with two changes in one colorwork chart in color, and one change in colorwork charts by numbers.
