These fingerless mitts were designed to be fun, quirky and warm, and using DK yarn they make a quick gift knit. The combination of knitted and purled stripes create an eye-catching concertina effect, reminiscent of an accordion/squeeze box. Bogsa-ciùil (pronounced bɔksə kiːl) is Scottish Gaelic for accordion. The stripes have the added benefit of creating insulating pockets for extra warmth and are perfect for wearing whilst playing your accordion!

If you have knowledge of knitting in the round and working make one increases, then this pattern should be suitable for you even if you haven’t worked a jogless stripe before.

Construction
Worked in the round from the cuff up to the fingers, with a rolled hem, a moss stitch ribbed cuff, alternate ‘jogless’ knit and purl stripes in alternating colours for the hand, and knitted rounds to finish at the fingers. There is a thumb gusset and the thumb is also finished with knitted rounds. Some guidance has been provided on working the jogless stripe technique.

Sizes
Small and large adult sizes to fit hand circumference 17.5-20.5cm (7-8”) and 23.5-26.5cm (9.5-10.5”). The stretchiness of the fabric may allow for a slightly larger range of sizes depending on the amount of negative ease you are happy with.

Yarn
124m (136yds) DK weight yarn for the main colour and 70m (77 yds) DK weight yarn for the contrasting colour, will be enough for the large size.

Needles
Suitable for working small circumferences in the round.
3.25mm (US3) for cuff, hand and thumb.
2.75mm (US2) for finger & thumb ends (optional).

Notions
Stitch markers x 3, row counter, stitch holder or waste yarn to hold thumb stitches, tapestry needle.
