The Brisay Shawl is a beautifully drapey, potato-chippy triangle shawl knit in two colour brioche. Switching colour dominance halfway through, the Brisay Shawl is a delight in squishy texture. The shawl comes in two sizes and is perfect for anyone new to brioche knitting or anyone confident enough with brioche for this to be the perfect movie night companion knit.

Sizing and Yarn Requirements

  • Size 1: 16in (40.5cm) deep by 40in (101.5cm) wide, measured flat. Uses two 50g skeins of fingering weight yarn; approximately 230yds (210m) of each colour
  • Size 2: 20.5in (52cm) deep by 50in (127cm) wide, measured flat. Uses two 100g skeins of fingering weight yarn; approximately 460yds (420m) of each colour

Gauge
Unblocked: 29 rows x 27 sts = 4in / 10cm
Blocked: 27 rows x 20 sts ‎ = 4in / 10cm

Note: because brioche stitches stretch and relax so much during the blocking process, it is more important to get close to the unblocked gauge in order to use the same approximate yardage as the pattern. When blocking my sample, I gently stretched the shawl to allow each stitch to spread and sit flat, to invite even more visual interaction between the colours. You may wish to block your project more or less than the sample shawls, which will affect your finished gauge.
