Hanging Christmas decor with trees and holly. Great scrap yarn project. Can be made as short or long as desired. Gauge and size are not important for this pattern. Can also be used for a flat Christmas tree or holly motif.

Does not use much yarn, less than a small skein of each colour. Any dark colour will do for the trunks: I used brown, but black, tan, rust, grey, or even navy would work. Or, you can leave the trees without trunks.

For the berries, I used a 50g skein of cotton (Bernat Handicrafter), and I used less than half to make nine berry clusters. Any pink, orange, or red will do.

Materials:

  • 5.5 mm hook
  • Finishing needle
  • Measuring tape or ruler (optional, for spacing out the hanging elements)
  • Worsted weight yarn in green(s), brown, and red. (Pictured example: Nine trees took roughly 100m of CraftSmart Ombre yarn. Eight berry clusters used roughly 20m of red. Eight pairs of holly leaves used roughly 25m of dark green Tent Sale Worsted.)

Stitches:
Chain, double crochet, half double crochet, single crochet, slip stitch, foundation double crochet (can substitute a chain with DC on top).
