the very first release of the amplify collection!

this shawl is part of the amplify collection, which features 7 shawl patterns all ‘inspired’ by 7 different songs. amplify is a collection of 7 shawls, ranging from triangles to rectangles to half-pi and asymmetric shapes. different yarns, textures, colors, and inspiration for each…

and by inspired, I mean a more literal inspiration!

I have something called chromesthesia, which is a type of synesthesia that combines sounds and colors. It’s kind of like watching a movie while listening to music.

this collection is my first exploration into how this ability works for me, and it is an experiment in exercising a creative approach to translating colors and textures I see when I hear music into something knit-able.

this shawl is my interpretation of Jason Mraz’s song, “Butterfly.” It’s one of my favorites of his, and I chose it in part for the bright colors and in part for the lightness I see in the music. (If you aren’t familiar with this song, go check it out! But do note that the lyrics are quite suggestive.)

combining garter stitch with lace, textured stitches, and stripes, this makes for a unique knit and gorgeous shawl for any season. choose bright colors, muted colors, 3 colors or 5… so many options for customizing this shawl!

Michele of REPUBLIC of WOOL curated the colors in my sample specifically to match my vision of this pattern (and song!), and they make such a beautiful and striking combination. Choose the same ones I did for a vibrant version of this shawl, or choose a more muted color palette instead.
