Chez Lui is originally designed for Dibadu Kapriolen combined with a contrast yarn like Dibadu Fluftikuss or Dolci. You will find tons of choices on the website. However you can use other yarn options as well: two solids, one solid or semi solid combined with a color gradient, or two color gradients that go well together as a pair but that are distinctive enough to make out the individual modules – all these ensembles will do. The amount of yarn you need will of course depend on the tightness of your knitting and the weight of your yarn. Also it will depend on the yarn weight. I used fingering which I combined with lace in one object. You will need more, if you use thicker yarn.

There are two versions – medium and large – so you can choose between a fairly large or definitely large wrap to get you through chilly hours. I knitted several versions.

One large version combining two balls of Cotton Kings Twirls Deluxe of the same weight with different color gradients. I knitted Modules A1 – A4 with #20 as Yarn A and Modules B1 – B3 plus the Trims with #28 as Yarn B. To keep the color gradient intact, I added the Bottom Trim right after knitting Module A1 and BEFORE starting Module B1. I used 630y/575m of Yarn A and 540y/495m of Yarn B (length = 78“/198cm; width middle = 13“/33cm; width side = 17,25“/44cm).

I knitted another large version but this time over 5 A-Modules with Schoppel Lace Ball 100 Pink Affaire as Yarn A. I knitted with two strands at the same time and I used it for the Trims as well. I needed 965y/880m for the Body and 570y/520m for the Trims = 1530y/1400m in total of Yarn A plus 440y/400m of Yarn B for which I used Wollmeise Pure Purple Velvet (length = 99“/252cm; width middle = 14,25“/36cm; width side = 24“/61cm).

The version presented on the cover page is knitted with Dibadu Tiny Merino Kapriole No. 182 as Yarn A combined with Dibadu Flufftikuss Abendstimmung as Yarn B. This time I used the medium version and I needed 930y/850m of Yarn A and 395y/360m for the Body and 265y/240m for the Trims = 660y/600m in total of Yarn B (length = 76“/194cm; width middle = 14“/35cm; width side = 23“/58cm).

Chez Lui is fully reversible. One side will highight Yarn A and the other will highlight Yarn B. It is a modular knit but there is no seaming involved as you will join all the modules as you go. You will find photo tutorials on all the necessary techniques for joining the modules. All instructions are offered in written and charted form. It is a lenghty pattern. To save paper and ink I split the versions into four individual patterns. If you tend to print out your patterns I recommend you leave out the photo tutorials. They will use up a lot of ink and you will only need them once or twice. Also, the knitting actions are better to distinguish on a screen in full color.
