One day, we drove past the little old church in our village and suddenly there was my pattern. From the outside, the stained-glass windows look like lattice which is represented in the lace pattern, and this is surrounded by the window arches.

Church Windows is a top-down seamless yoke jersey. The neck band is cast on and a cable and rib pattern is worked for the neckband. The yoke is then worked down with lace panels and stitches are increased quickly to form the arches which shape the yoke. German Short Rows are worked in the back yoke to push it up for a better fit. Once the yoke is complete, the sleeves are separated off and the body is worked down straight and finished with the cable and rib hem. The sleeves are returned to the needles and underarm stitches are picked up before being worked down with decreases to a full length.

This sample is knit with Baby Bandit by Outlaw yarn and is a super-wash 100% New Zealand merino fingering weight yarn.
Sizes 1 – 3 only have two tiers of window arches, but sizes 4 - 9 have three.
