Rectangular, bi-colored scarf (no ends to weave!), reversible, very simple. Basically, it’s just a garter stitch, spiced up with some increases and decreases. No stranding required, you work with one color in every row.
The pattern repeat is small and develops very quickly as you knit, so you won’t be guessing where you’re at and what you’re doing.
I used stacked decreases/increases method, but tried to make as simple a pattern as possible. There is neither terribly long increases, nor k5togs.
Still not a TV knitting though, at least for a first few pattern repeats ;)).
Pattern has two options - with or without the shift, see the pictures.
The scarf can be done any length and width, that’s why I cannot specify the exact yarn amounts you’ll need. For a 2-pattern repeats wide scarf, 100 g of fingering-weight yarn will be enough for about 150cm (5 feet).
If you’re interested in this technique, check my Stream; it’s also very simple: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stream-3
