Cosy Cabled Headband
Meet your new cold-weather favourite: a beautifully textured cabled headband that’s as practical as it is eye-catching. Designed to keep your ears cosy while adding a little knitted flair to your outfit, this project is perfect for those moments when you want warmth without the bulk of a full hat.
The rhythmic cables create a satisfying knit with just enough interest to keep things engaging, while the finished fabric is soft, snug, and wonderfully insulating. Whether you’re knitting this as a quick treat for yourself or a thoughtful handmade gift, it’s a piece that feels special from the very first stitch.
This pattern was originally written for our in-person Introduction to Cable Knitting course, and we’ve included the full lesson plan (yes, even homework!) from our two-session workshop so you can recreate the experience yourself. All of our knitters successfully completed both the headband and matching handwarmers using 100g of Cascade 128 Superwash Chunky yarn—though we did provide an extra 10g to allow for looser gauge and larger head circumferences.
Easy to customise for the perfect fit, this headband is all about comfort, style, and that lovely sense of “I made this!”
Teachers, feel free to print these patterns and use them in your own courses—we’d love to be part of your teaching toolkit.
Knitters, you’re very welcome to use these patterns to make and sell your finished accessories—go forth and cable with confidence!
