Crochet top pattern
This is a crochet pattern only, not a finished product.
I’m also selling the pattern on ko-fi.
Right after purchasing, you will receive a downloadable PDF copy of this pattern (27 pages).
I’ve included a short version of the pattern (15 pages) for intermediate and advanced crocheters who want a short pattern to follow. This version doesn’t include all the photos and details that the original version does.
I’ve included a lookbook which you’ll receive along with the pattern as a separate PDF. For reference, I’ve written down what yarn fiber, brand, weight and yardage I used. I also wrote down what size crochet hook I used.
This pattern is named Elsa after Elsa from Frozen. My very first Elsa top made me think of Elsa because of the colours (blue and white) and because the colourway is called “ice queen”. Therefore, I thought it only fitting to call it Elsa :)
The Elsa top is an elegant, formfitting and versatile top which is perfect for spring and warmer weather. It’s also great for layering. I like to wear it over a t-shirt or long-sleeved top.
This pattern is beginner-friendly.
This pattern is “made to measure” which means you’ll make it according to your own measurements.
The top works up pretty quickly. I can finish one top in 1-2 days.
You won’t have to make a gauge swatch, decrease or increase or sew more than once.
I’ve written down how many stitches I make in each step for comparison. But as the pattern is “made to measure”, the number of stitches and rows you’ll make, will likely be different from mine.
In this pattern, I guide you through making and placing two or four straps or making the top strapless.
I also guide you through adding tassels to your straps, and adding beads to the tassels.
This pattern includes pictures to help you through the various steps.
This pattern uses US terminology.
Materials:
- Yarn: you can use any yarn fiber and weight. I’ve personally tested merino wool, cotton, silk-blends, bamboo-blends and cashmere-blends and they work very well. I would not use anything too stiff like mercerized cotton. I prefer using yarn weight 1-3 to get a light and flowy look, but you can use any yarn weight. The amount of yarn you’ll need depends on your size, yarn weight and your desired length of the top. For my blue Elsa top (cropped size s), I used around 100 g/400 m of fingering weight yarn (merino wool/silk-blend). You won’t need much and that’s why this pattern is great for scrap-yarn projects.
- Crochet hook: the size you’ll need depends on what look you’re going for (not lacy, slightly lacy, very lacy). I guide you through choosing the right size for you in the pattern. I used size 4,5 for my Blue Elsa top.
