Cromarty Hat
I designed and knitted this hat as we toured around Scotland in our peerie campervan in the summer of 2022. We visited Cromarty; this attractive town is situated on the tip of The Black Isle peninsula which projects out into the North Sea. Interestingly, it features as one of the areas in the legendary “Shipping forecast”. To my partner’s dismay, I never travel light because of the knitting related paraphernalia that comes with me! On this particular trip I had brought with me a limited range of Shetland wool colours; I was pleased with the overall look of the resulting hat made in the dusky light in the back of our campervan.

This pattern includes traditional Fair Isle OXO motifs. I would recommend using 100% Shetland wool for best results.

The pattern is one size adult but the actual size can be changed quite dramatically using larger or smaller needle sizes.
Please pay particular attention to the required tension as my knitting tends to be close.

In this design I have used 7 shades but you can easily adapt the design to use fewer colours. 1 x 25g ball of each shade.
