Have you ever tried knitting left and right twists?! You get the graphic stitch-shifting effect of cables, but these cleverly worked stitches eliminate the need for a cable needle entirely. These easy-to-work twists can create complex geometric designs with very little bulk, making them perfect for eye-catching sock designs that will also fit nicely inside a shoe.
I created these toe-up socks to play with the geometry of knit stitches. While left and right twists create diagonal lines, purl ridges form horizontal lines, and knitting through the back loop constructs vertical lines. All these techniques come together to create a graphic array of diamonds that climb their way from the toe up the leg of the sock. What do you say … would you like to Dabble in Diamonds?
