Are you ready to “dip your toe” into lace?! Lace knitting is such an easy way to add flair to a sock design, making it one of my favorite sock techniques! In this sock, simple openwork clusters are created by pairing decreases with yarnovers, while purl stitches are precisely placed to create a network of diamonds down the leg and onto the instep. Throughout the leg, every other round creates a “rest round” by knitting around with no other stitches.

While the lace patterning is predictable and easy to memorize, the adventure really begins with the heel! The triangular ribbed heel creates an alternative to a heel flap … no picked-up stitches required. If you enjoy working the toe-up heel in Easygoing, you’ll appreciate this top-down alternative with a little extra splash. If you want to move beyond simple stockinette, it may be time for some Lace Capades!

Color Suggestions
The best way to highlight the lace and diamonds is to use a solid or semi-solid yarn, featuring a color that is not too dark. They can also look great with gradient yarns. Lightly speckled yarns may also look nice, but any yarn with contrasting colors may overwhelm the texture, hiding the lovely stitchwork that has gone into knitting these socks.
