This hat is dedicated to my dad Craig. He and my mother Cindee raised seven children. Our family lived on food from the garden and whatever my dad hunted. I have wonderful memories of hunting season and my dad taught us about the gratitude and patience that comes with that. My dad is no longer with us and this pattern is dedicated to him and all the animals that fed our large family growing up, as well as all the hunters who may wear this hat to stay warm in the cold while out hunting to provide for their families. I am ever grateful for the memories and health that came from hunting season.

CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
Dad’s Hunting Hat is constructed in the round as one long piece, starting at the crown of one end. Yarn over increases on every round are twisted to blend with the fabric. They then lead to a very long twisted rib body. The second crown finishes off with decreases to match the first. After binding off, a technique called half binding is used to seam the two crowns closed. Instead of catching every stitch in a normal graft bind off, you catch only the knit stitches which gives a firmer seam. By pulling the yarn tightly, the hat appears to have been seamed from the inside.
