derek the deer
Derek the Deer is a part of my #nopressurepatterns series: small, simple projects you can make with yarn you already have, in one cosy evening, without perfectionism. Derek can be neat or wonky, sleepy or curious. Every version is the right one.
What makes Derek special:
- tiny antlers made from a 2-stitch i-cord, with little knotted side branches that look like real, crooked forest antlers,
embroidered spots on his forehead and back, just like a young deer,
- ears picked up directly from the body.
Inside the pattern:
- the full body worked in the round on two parallel needles - no sewing in the main construction,
- bobble arms and feet worked directly into the body,
- holder/hugger variation - a longer arm so Derek can hold a flower, leaf or twig,
- long silly arms and legs variation,
- step-by-step instructions for bobble stitch and Kitchener stitch,
- photos for every step that needs them.
Details:
- yarn: any yarn you like - the sample was made with DROPS Alaska and Nepal
- needles: DPNs (or long cable needles for Magic Loop)
- finished size depending on yarn and needles
- level: adventurous beginner
- language: English
Derek makes a lovely keyring, bag charm, desk companion or a heartful gift for someone who could use a little forest calm.
You’re very welcome to sell finished Dereks made from this pattern - just please credit @hekla.cwist as the designer. :)
