My husband has been spinning yarn for a couple years. Recently he spun yarn from a packet of 7 small batts of various colors and plied it with a natural light grey. The skeins were so lovely and fun that I put together this simple shawl pattern. The muted rainbow effect is enhanced with the way the shawl drapes over the shoulders without requiring a pin to keep it in place.

As his yarn is not commercially available, I knit a second shawl using Wandering Wool’s Saranac Fingering. Remarkably, the color changes are in sync with the pattern changes.

The shawl also lends itself to sock weight and DK, although larger needles are recommended with DK yarn.

Single color and variegated yarns should also work well.

Gauge is really not necessary.

Pattern will be free for a week, then for sale.
