What if, instead of knitting one sensibly-sized triangle shawl, you could knit—several tiny cute ones? And still get a normal scarf/shawl thing, more or less, when you’re done? All right, they are not actually triangles, except for the first one—but the knitting as a project is very shawl-like.

Materials:

  • 462-550 yards of fingering-weight yarn; the sample is shown in Malabrigo Yarn Sock in Ochre. Yardage estimates are for a slightly shorter scarf (omit the last two repeats) versus the full-size one, and do not include swatching yardage.
  • 1 24”+ circular needle in US3-4/3.25-3.5mm, or size needed for gauge, used to work flat
  • tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:
Gauge is 22 sts and 36 rows over 4”/10cm of garter stitch, worked flat and blocked lightly. Gauge is important for dimensions and yardage estimates, but not for fit.

Measurements:
This shawl as shown is 82”/2.08m long. The smallest triangle is about 4”/10cm deep, and the biggest on the sample is 17”/44cm deep.
