Drifa Mittens
DRÍFA
A beautiful pair of mittens from Halldórustofa. It’s not known how old these mittens are, nor who knit them, but the pattern is very similar to mittens found in the book Vefnaður- og útsaumsgerðir, published in 1928 by the Icelandic Handcrafts Association. The main color is white and the contrast color a light brown. The cuff is unusual in that it incorporates stranded knitting in both stocking stitch and ribbing.
Various patterns are knitted into the body and the thumb. Attention needs to be paid to the varying tensions for knitting in one color and in two colors. A project for experienced knitters.
