TINNA
The West Fjords have their own unique mitten knitting tradition, which is said to date back to the latter half of the 19th century. Here is a good example from the Halldórustofa. The knitter is unknown; the wool is hand-spun, and was processed at Vigur in Ísafjarðardjúp.
A short ribbed cuff is followed by a border, a single color on the body of the mitten, and another border on the top. It was also traditional to cast on with a different contrasting color, and knitters in this region kept a stash of brightly colored leftover yarn lengths for this purpose.
