Driftless Hat is the companion to the Driftless Mitts pattern. Both hat and mitts can be made using just 2 skeins of Malabrigo Rios, and both are excellent first-time colorwork projects. This is stranded colorwork using only two colors, and most of the hat is one-color stockinette stitch, so its a good way to ease into a new skill.
They were named after the rolling hills of the Driftless Region in Western Wisconsin.

Construction:
This hat is knit in the round, bottom up, with a simple colorwork chart in the middle, decreasing at the top and adding a pom pom (optional).
It would make an excellent first-time colorwork project.

3.5 mm/US Size 4 double-pointed needles
