Sorry for being so abrupt, but I just wanted to make that clear. Now, for the fun description:

When I think of the 1940s, I think of classic elegance, fur coats, burlesque, oldschool glamour, jewels bigger than your fist, big bands, and Christina Aguilera’s first, third, and seventh attempt to return to the spotlight. Lines are crisp, clean, well defined. It’s an era where elegance is taken to a whole new level, and everyone calls each other ‘doll’.

While this image of the 1940s may or may not have any base in reality, it’s still a fun scenario to idealize and play off of. The DylaniumKnits honeycomb takes the sleek lines and elegant texture of the era and vamps it up with a modern day twist. Reminiscent of the classic cloche at the time, this hat says ‘come here, big boy,’ while basking in luxurious femininity.

Now, for the technicalities: The hat is knit on a bulky weight 9mm machine in two pieces. First, the brim is made in a basket stitch comprised of a series of one-by-one cables across 10 stitches, with one column of selvage stitches. The pieces is then re-hung on the selvage column and joined seamlessly to the main body of the hat. This pattern was written using specifications on my machine, a Singer SK120, single bed machine. The stitches require hand manipulation using two single eyelet tools and the latch tool to cast on, all of which should come standard with your knitting machine. While stitch and tension dial settings may vary depending on your machine make and model, I attempt to provide accurate gauge in stitches/inch so that you can achieve the appropriate tension on your machine.
